[edit] Color-wheel + Colorchanger

This one is looking nice and smooth, but - how would it look if the current color is almost pure white or pure black? Would it just pop up to the left or right, instead of centered at the cursor? Or would it have a larger black or white area?

And another disadvantage: since the gradient is so smooth, you can see nothing when staring at it (if you know what I mean). You get visually lost. Some guidelines might help maybe, eg. a grid or circular lines or something interactive (like eg. a center square that grows bigger when you move away from it). This is a problem that the current color changer solves nicely with the stripes vs background. --maxy 19:17, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

  • To limit the amount of information, could one maybe imagine really separating the functionality of V from that of G but letting V (using this type of colour circle shown above, it looks very good), instead only showing the nearest colours to the currently selected one? This would also allow for more exact picking of colours relative the old colour, since the screen circle area don't have to cover as wide a range of colours. -- Griatch

[edit] Color-changer modifications

Comment on this proposal: it should be possible to fix antialiasing with a little bit of work, so this is not a show-stopper. Full ACK about the "throwing a rainbow into the user's face" argument; this could get too distracting. As in your other proposal, we could probably hide it (or make it very tiny, just a hint) until the user gets closer to it.

At the moment I find the center square a bit strange; I might prefer to eg. cut out an edge of all four corners and show the current color there instead. But maybe I would also get used to it and like it, I can't really tell for sure. --maxy 19:17, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Combined history

I want to try this! Very nice idea. Suggested variants:
  • ignore colors from the history that are (too similar | black | white)
  • use one of the hist slots for a random or complementary color instead

--maxy 17:33, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

  • Hey, good idea about the complementary color, that make a lot of sense, and also for the idea to remove black/white of the history. The result can be still in a square if it's easier to code.--deevad21:42, July 03 2010 (UTC)

Working on this, it looks like a dart play at the moment and is not yet functional (but currently the BG area is changing color while moving). Been thinking about how the current color changer allows to make a "well-defined" change when moving the wrist by a fixed distance (without even looking). If we want to keep this property, then a simple gradient to the outermost color won't do. It's also a possibility that we show the cells but actually pick according to an invisible gradient. --maxy 20:18, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

The two apparence you code ( your picture above ) look good in my opinion ( see fig 1.a ) ( and waoo , you're fast ) . I understand the various issues you describe in your comment. Maybe my early conclusion is : advanced user will probably prefer gradient to color blocks.

I tried other way ;

  • fig 1.b : A failing try to combine color blocks and gradient bar. Result is simply too hard to read.
  • fig 1.c : Maybe the one I consider the most for the moment, free gradient bar.
  • fig 1.d : Just wanted to test if another way to create cells for color could look good. Apparently not :)
  • fig 1.e : The dart play over the gradient can look good ; I'm concern if the user pick accidently over a dark separator line... May be this should return the color underneath instead of the color of the separator ? In my example i's obvious the number of concentric cercle are a bit too high.
  • fig 1.f : a variation of fig 1.e, just a test if having blending with neighbours colors would help. Apparently not , all look messy and blury even with a grid on the top.

Another idea for combining the color selector and history dialogs. Place the recent history around the saturation/value box. --DementedSnake

-I never heard anything back about this. Does anyone like this idea? Is it bad? --Demented 07:48 DementedSnake 11:49, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Paint Mixer Dialog

- I would love to get a a mixing color panel too. One with a checkbox to switch between two modes :

1. painting on using a rounded wet brush to do beautiful mixing

2. auto color picking it.

Palettes/mixing area would have two tiny button icons :

1.save button, to save it

2.a open button, to open it

Something I imagine that can be done with *.ora is to stock this infos as a extra layer. --Deevad 06:12, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

lo

- The only thing I don't understand is why make another dialog for something you can already do? You can easily mix paint on the canvas. I don't get it... --DementedSnake 02:07 (UTC -0500), 27 March 2011

- It's an alternative to a color palette, the mix of 2 colors makes the in-betweens gradient act as new pickable colors. Of course, artist can already do it on canvas ; but it's difficult to keep when you painted all the surface. And usage of a layer for it is not appropriate for the moment cause layers can't be moved. ( if you have a zone to detail and need to zoom, you loose your palette on canvas ) --Deevad 09:32, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

you have the mix visible all the time jorjoso-www.moonito.com resizable and ontop File:mixerjorjoso.jpg
